LET US HELP WAYANAD
An unfathomable painful horror unfolded in the once peaceful hills of Wayanad as the first rays of dawn touched the horizon on that fateful morning of July 30th, 2024. The torrential rains, relentless and unforgiving, transformed the verdant hillsides of Mundakkai and Chooralmala into treacherous torrents of mud and rock.
The horrific boulder attacks followed swiftly, resulting in incomprehensible devastation, claiming over 231 lives, leaving more than 130 missing, and the recovery of 212 body parts. The grim reality extended beyond human loss, as the recovery of body parts from the Chaliyar River, approximately 56 kilometres away in Malappuram, unveiled the catastrophic scale of the landslide.
Kerala, a state accustomed to battling nature's challenges, found itself overwhelmed by this unprecedented tragedy. The landslide in Wayanad stands as a stark reminder of the fragility of human existence and the immense power of nature. This is a tragedy that has shaken the core of our state, and the echoes of its devastation will reverberate for generations to come.
In the face of such devastation, the Kerala Government launched the "Let Us Help Wayanad" initiative. Guided by compassion, unity and collaboration, this platform aims to provide immediate, need-based, targeted relief to the affected population. By connecting those in need with willing contributors, we hope to rebuild lives and restore hope to the region.
Our mission is to unify the efforts of compassionate individuals, organisations, and communities to provide essential support to Wayanad. Whether it involves immediate disaster relief, rebuilding homes, or fostering long-term recovery and rehabilitation, "Let Us Help Wayanad" is a vital link between those in need and those offering support.
At "Let Us Help Wayanad," our primary focus is on identifying and amplifying the specific needs of the affected communities, which may encompass food, shelter, medical care, or other essential resources. By establishing a transparent and dependable platform, we empower individuals and organisations to contribute to these critical requirements directly, guaranteeing that assistance is delivered expeditiously and effectively to those in greatest need.
Our platform avoids financial transactions, instead connecting the community's needs with potential supporters. After a contribution, a representative from the District Administration Wayanad will contact the contributor to provide specific delivery instructions, ensuring that every donation reaches its intended recipients directly.
As a collaborative initiative of the Kerala Government and the District Administration Wayanad, "Let Us Help Wayanad" is founded on the principles of transparency, accountability, and community involvement. Through close partnerships with community members, the District IAG, local governing bodies, non-profit organisations, and volunteers, we meticulously verify each need presented on our platform to guarantee accurate representation and efficient aid distribution.
We believe in the power of collective action; together, we can transform despair into hope, and loss into new beginnings.
Join us in rebuilding Wayanad - Every Step Counts.
